September - Activated platelets – ‘The white clot’

When an injury occurs in a vessel wall, platelets are activated. They adhere to the surface of the injured vessel (adhesion) and join together to form an aggregate (aggregation/white clot). This clot is large enough to function as the first barrier to bleeding. This haemostatic process is known as ‘primary haemostasis’. Secondary haemostasis includes the generation of thrombin and fibrin formation. The Sysmex coagulation portfolio offers solutions for both secondary haemostasis and platelet aggregation.
